Surgical Holdings’ Year in Review: A Year of Milestones, Growth and Celebrations

As we reflect on the journey that was 2023, Surgical-Holdings is proud to share the many milestones, moments of progress, and avenues of growth that have defined our year. From celebrating our 35th anniversary in grand style to expanding our facilities and celebrating new partnerships, here’s a look back at the significant events that shaped our path throughout the past 12 months.

  • We kicked off the year with a bang, wrapping up a major investment in our rigid endoscope repair department, solidifying our commitment to top-notch surgical instrument repair and manufacturing – and setting the stage for an innovative year ahead, which will commence with the integration of a further new building.
  • February was a month of appreciation, as we took a moment to honour the dedication of our team and celebrated some exciting anniversaries, with team members clocking in impressive milestones from 5 to an impressive 20 years! Their commitment remains the heartbeat of Surgical Holdings, driving our success at every step.
  • Education remains at the heart of what we do – and over to our first event of the year, we were proud to sponsor the inaugural Beyond Clean-UK conference, ‘Through the Looking Glass’, strengthening our commitment to educational development in sterile services. Our Managing Director Dan Coole spoke at the event to share his insights on Surgical Instrument Quality Considerations, and our Training Manager, Mark Pullen, delved into some expert tips on inspecting Rigid Endoscopes.
  • A heartwarming visit to Trustlinks, a local independent charity, led to an exciting partnership in 2023, and the successful Surgical Holdings Bake Off sweetened the deal! From the National Performance Advisory Group Theatres and Decontamination Conference 2023, to HFS Scotland Decontamination, The Association for Perioperative-Practice (AfPP) Annual Conference 2023, and the IDSc UK 16th Annual Conference. Over to our last big stop of the year, it was a pleasure to once again join the ABHI UK Pavilion at MEDICA Trade Fair in Germany to showcase how we can help hospitals worldwide achieve greater sustainability.

  • The completion of Unit 10, our shiny new building, marked another significant milestone this year, with further investments in both manufacturing and repair provisions. This expansion is not just physical but a testament to our dedication to excellence!
  • Our Orthopaedic Power Repair venture also achieved its own milestones as we expanded our handpiece repair business to cover multiple manufacturers of battery-operated handpieces. It’s a step toward making surgical instruments more accessible and sustainable. We are proud to repair all Stryker powered handpieces and other brands of orthopaedic power tools.
  • Customer visits provided an opportunity to showcase our passion for the profession, with some excellent feedback from both customers and employees! We are always eager to pass on our skills and knowledge, and we frequently welcome visitors to our friendly Southend-on-Sea workshop – it’s a chance to put names to faces, see the processes firsthand and get an understanding of what happens to your instruments when they come in for repair.
  • 35 years in the making and going strong! In September we celebrated a whopping 35 years of success in style with our amazing team. In honour of this incredible milestone, we hosted a special birthday BBQ bash and presented a special award to our workshop manager Terry, to mark his incredible 35-year journey with Surgical Holdings – an amazing achievement!
  • In LSAS we had a further positive audit achieving levels 3 & 4, in this hugely important area of Labour standards. We also published our first carbon reduction plan, in line with NHS requirements, reinforcing our dedication to a sustainable future.

2023 has been quite the year! None of it would have been possible without the incredible dedication, skills, and passion of our extraordinary team and stakeholders. A big shoutout to our fantastic team, partners, customers, and followers who have been an integral part of this exhilarating journey. Here’s to a successful, healthy and prosperous 2024 for everyone – and to another 35 years of success!
